FISH May 14
The hardest part of my work is keeping good news quiet until the people who own the project share their news. When I help good people do good things, the moment to speak belongs to them first.
On May 14, FISH of Williamsburg, Virginia stepped forward and shared a major public update on their New Home for FISH capital project and campaign — a milestone 50 years in the making.
For half a century, this all‑volunteer organization has been a steadfast help to neighbors experiencing economic insecurity, serving more than 6,400 people each year with the support of 260+ volunteers. Their food pantry, clothing closet, and small household goods shop have long been lifelines for families across Greater Williamsburg.
Now, FISH is preparing to move into a permanent home at 7129 Pocahontas Trail, a building they will own — right on the bus route, with ample parking, and designed for ease of use for clients and volunteers alike. The 8,000‑square‑foot facility will include custom-designed space---reception area, meeting rooms, administrative space, donation processing, storage spaces, and improved access for the community.
This project is more than a building. It is a promise that FISH will be in Williamsburg to help their neighbors for years to come. Their commitment to dignity, hospitality, and neighbor‑to‑neighbor care is unchanged, just better equipped.
The link to their Capital Campaign landing page is below. I’m grateful to witness what happens when a generous people sustain a protective community asset. The same community that has supported FISH for 50 years is quietly buttressing FISH to move into a dedicated space permanently.
